What is DIN e KYC Filing?
DIN e KYC, also known as DIR-3 KYC, is a mandatory annual compliance requirement introduced by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) in India under Rule 12A of the Companies (Appointment and Qualification of Directors) Rules, 2014. It stands for Director Identification Number (DIN) electronic Know Your Customer (e KYC) verification. The process ensures that directors' personal details, such as identity, contact information, and address, are updated and verified in the MCA's database to maintain transparency, prevent fraud, and keep records accurate. This applies to all individuals holding a valid DIN, including those who are not currently active as directors but have been allotted a DIN.
The DIN is an 8-digit unique identification number assigned to individuals who are or wish to become directors of Indian companies or designated partners in Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs). Failure to file DIR-3 KYC can result in deactivation of the DIN, which restricts the individual's ability to participate in corporate governance, file forms on the MCA portal, or be recognized as a director.
Who Needs to File DIN e KYC?
Every individual who meets the following criteria must file DIR-3 KYC annually:
• Holds an approved DIN (or Director Partner Identification Number - DPIN for LLPs) as of March 31 of the financial year.
• This includes:
o Current directors of companies or designated partners of LLPs.
o Disqualified directors.
o Individuals who have a DIN but are not currently serving in any company or LLP.
o Foreign nationals holding a DIN (they must provide notarized/apostilled documents).
• DINs allotted after March 31 of a financial year do not require filing until September 30 of the next year (e.g., a DIN allotted on April 10, 2025, requires filing by September 30, 2026).
This requirement applies regardless of whether there are changes in details; it's an annual verification to keep the DIN active.
The due date for DIR-3 KYC filing is September 30 of the financial year immediately following the end of the previous financial year. For the financial year 2024-25 (ending March 31, 2025), the filing must be completed by September 30, 2025. The MCA may occasionally extend this deadline, so check the official MCA website for updates.

2. DIR-3 KYC Web Form:
o Use this for annual verification if you filed DIR-3 KYC in the previous year and there are no changes in your KYC details (except possibly mobile/email, which can be updated via the e-form if needed).
o Simpler process: Log in to the MCA portal, verify details via OTP sent to your registered mobile and email, and confirm. No documents or professional certification required.
If you need to update details other than mobile/email after the annual filing, you can file DIR-3 KYC again with a fee of ₹500 (as per the August 1, 2024 amendment).
